- Led development of new process for strategic program planning and evaluation
- Served as chief academic officer for eight colleges, Cline Library, Center for International Education, and Honors Program
- Managed state budget of approximately $102 million
VICE PRESIDENT FOR RESEARCH, NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY, 2008 – 2012
- University’s first Vice President for Research, after Research Division split from Vice Provost for Research/Dean of the Graduate School
- Developed strategic plan for increasing scope, impact of research and creative activities
- Established internal research awards program, Office of Undergraduate Research, systematic reporting of research and sponsored projects funding, and direct university management of intellectual property and technology transfer
- Served as Responsible Official and developed new oversight of biosafety, animal care and use, human subjects research, research ethics, and environmental health and safety.
DEAN, NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY, 2003 - 2008
- Dean of College of Arts & Sciences, 2003-04; largest NAU college, with budget of $12 million
- Founding Dean of new interdisciplinary College of Engineering & Natural Sciences, 2004
- Led successful re-accreditation efforts for engineering programs through ABET while building new cross-disciplinary programs and integrating administrative and support functions
- College expanded enrollment, curricular offerings, undergraduate research and design programs, and research funding throughout tenure
ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT CHAIR, BIOLOGY, NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY, 1998 - 2003
- Managed budget and led faculty and staff in largest department of College of Arts & Sciences
- Established first dedicated academic advising office
- Led successful effort to gain state funding ($13 million) for building renovation
- Served on university-wide Chairs Council to create Handbook for Department Chairs
- Served on steering committee for university’s NSF ADVANCE / Institutional Transformation grant, focused on recruiting and supporting female faculty across all science and engineering departments; chaired the Faculty Professional Development subcommittee
- Participated in several programs aimed at supporting students from under-represented backgrounds, including REU/Research Experiences for Undergraduates site program (NSF), AGEP/Alliance for Graduate Education for the Professoriate (NSF), AMP/Alliance for Minority Participation (NSF), and Bridges to Baccalaureate (NIH)
Have served as external evaluator for several departments and academic programs, for ecological research centers, and for networks of faculty across undergraduate institutions.
